Anne Tanzi Carty
My passion has always been for drawing and
color, whether using watercolors, oils, gouache
or pastels. Painting for me is about creating a
mood and describing spatial relationships while
exploring color harmonies. Recently, I have
been working with watercolor on pastel paper,
then layering color in vibrant pastels to create
a beautiful texturing. I like the freedom of laying
down a more transparent layer, covering it up
with something more substantial, and then
creating excitement using complimentary or
unusual color combinations as I go.
I enjoy depicting local or distant landscapes,
figures and/or portraits of people or animals,
and also the still life. I also love to travel, and
am inspired by beautiful scenery and lively
historic cities.
My journey started at Rhode Island School of
Design (RISD) where I received a BFA in Textile
Design. Over time, my focus evolved toward
Fine Arts painting. I currently live In Providence
and Tiverton, RI, and am an active exhibiting
member of the Providence Art Club.
